Amazon Data Services large load at Comanche Peak. Comanche Peak Power Company filed a PUC application on Feb. 19, 2026 for a net metering arrangement with a new 1,200 MW large load, and amended it on May 19 to name Amazon Data Services, Inc. as the customer, located in Somervell County (official). ERCOT filed its study results on Oct. 13 (Item 53, Docket 59399) (ERCOT study, PUC Docket 59399). The energization schedule Amazon gave ERCOT shows the first 100 MW around Oct. 2027 and all 1,200 MW around Oct. 2031 (ERCOT study, PUC Docket 59399). ERCOT's filing says the load may still be curtailed in emergencies and proposes conditions on curtailment (official).
Reports on the deal. Utility Dive reported Aug. 10 that Vistra executives said the 1.2 GW Amazon agreement is not expected to be affected by the Texas pause, and that Amazon is building a $5 billion data center project near the plant (news, citing a Vistra earnings call; the PUC filing doesn't state the $5 billion) (Utility Dive). PowerGrabTX reported Nov. 2 that PUC staff filed Oct. 30 recommending approval subject to ERCOT's conditions, that the PUC canceled the hearing and is deciding on written filings, and that a commission vote is the next step (news; the staff filing itself was not opened) (PowerGrabTX). It also reports a United Cooperative Services member-owner filed a public comment Nov. 1 objecting on transmission-impact and ratepayer-cost grounds (news; comment not opened).

What's next
These dates come from the tracker. Texas Data Center Watch has no recorded date for the PUC's vote on this application.
- Statewide permit pause: Under the Governor's Sept. 21 order halting permits sought by data centers (Governor's office), TCEQ sent its Oct. 19 compliance letter: it says permits for infrastructure directly supporting data centers are paused, pending applications are being screened, and claimed authorizations are suspended where possible (TCEQ letter). The Texas Tribune reported Oct. 20 that TCEQ says stormwater permits flagged by Public Citizen were suspended (Texas Tribune). On Oct. 21 TCEQ posted that its STEERS e-filing system for automatic authorizations is temporarily shut down so staff can check whether applications relate to data centers (TCEQ STEERS notice); the Texas Tribune reports a spokesman said applications must be physically provided (Texas Tribune, Oct. 21). When re-checked Oct. 29, TCEQ's STEERS page still said e-filing was down and that TCEQ expects the staff-review change to be done in mid-November (TCEQ STEERS page). The tracker doesn't show whether any project in Somervell County has a pending TCEQ permit.
