This week's policy watch

  • ERCOT reports about 474 GW of large loads seeking interconnection as of June 2026, about 90% of them data centers. Official record ercot.com ↗
  • On Sep 21 2026 the Governor directed TCEQ to halt all permits sought by data centers until ERCOT completes its audit. TCEQ's compliance update is due to the Governor on Oct 19 2026. Official record gov.texas.gov ↗
  • ERCOT plans to file its Batch Zero eligibility and community-impact reports with the PUC by Dec 10 2026, and has paused energizing new large-load data centers until the verification and audit are complete (ERCOT, Sep 11). Official record ercot.com ↗

What this means for sellers: state permits for data centers are on hold and ERCOT has paused energizing new large loads, so near-term work tilts toward projects that already have building registrations, local approvals or on-site power. Watch the Oct 19 and Dec 10 dates.

New and active leads (7)

Lead 1 · Williamson County · Taylor (just east of city limits, between FM 112 and US 79)

Stage
Approved (development agreement)
Size / power
664 acres; data center facilities plus on-site power generation (City of Taylor); up to 1 GW data center capacity via dedicated behind-the-meter power from a new 750 MW natural gas plant; first power targeted 1H 2028, first phase aiming for 500 MW (DCD, Oct 15 2026, attributing company plans)

  • Developers Big Watt Digital and PowerHouse Data Centers plan up to 1 GW with a new 750 MW natural gas plant; first power targeted 1H 2028, first phase aiming for 500 MW (company plans, reported by DCD). News report datacenterdynamics.com ↗

Why it matters for vendors, contractors and brokers: Up to 1 GW of planned capacity plus a 750 MW on-site gas plant (company plans) means gas turbine, switchgear, transformer, closed-loop cooling and civil packages. The agreement sets a preliminary plat deadline of Apr 8 2027, so design and site-work bids come first.

Why it matters for vendors, contractors and brokers: Two signals in one week: a fourth core/shell registration ($550M) and a city rezoning for a further phase with on-site power. Long-cycle work for electrical, cooling and power-generation vendors in the Austin–Round Rock corridor.

Lead 6 · Hudspeth County · Desert Haven area

Why it matters for vendors, contractors and brokers: Early-stage and far West Texas, with behind-the-meter gas claimed.
