Data Center Projects in Childress County, Texas

Last verified: October 27, 2026 · 2 tracked projects · 2 tracked records

Overview

Texas Data Center Watch tracks two data center projects in Childress County, including Project Hyper – Childress, a Crusoe/Lancium campus at 525 County Road 23. It is listed as Registered (TDLR).

On July 15, 2026, Crusoe and Lancium announced a 270-acre, 1.0 GW grid-connected campus, with construction expected to begin in Q3 2026 (Crusoe). That is a company figure. Conflicting capacity: DCD (Oct. 2, 2026) wrote that Crusoe announced in July 2026 it was working with Lancium on a 1.4GW campus, which doesn't match Crusoe's own 1.0 GW release. DCD also reports that construction has begun on two buildings, with the third expected to follow in October 2026 (DCD).

On Sept. 11, 2026, three single-story data center buildings were registered with TDLR (806,359 sq ft and an estimated $2.4B each; owners Childress DC1, DC2 and DC3 LLC). Starts are listed as July 6, Sept. 1 and Oct. 5, 2026, with completions Feb. 28, Apr. 28 and May 31, 2028 (TDLR 1; TDLR 2; TDLR 3).

Added since the Oct. 16 page update:

  • IREN Childress campus (Horizon AI buildings for Microsoft), Childress: listed as partially operational. Developer, per the tracker: IREN; Microsoft (customer) (IREN · DCD).

Note: "registered" means a state accessibility (TDLR) building registration, not an environmental permit.

What's next

These dates come from the tracker. Texas Data Center Watch has no recorded upcoming Childress County hearings or votes on data centers.

  • Through May 31, 2028: Scheduled completions for Buildings 1–3, per their TDLR registrations (TDLR).
  • Statewide permit pause: Under the Governor's Sept. 21 order halting permits sought by data centers (Governor's office), TCEQ sent its Oct. 19 compliance letter: it says permits for infrastructure directly supporting data centers are paused, pending applications are being screened, and claimed authorizations are suspended where possible (TCEQ letter). The Texas Tribune reported Oct. 20 that TCEQ says stormwater permits flagged by Public Citizen were suspended (Texas Tribune). On Oct. 21 TCEQ posted that its STEERS e-filing system for automatic authorizations is temporarily shut down so staff can check whether applications relate to data centers (TCEQ STEERS notice); the Texas Tribune reports a spokesman said applications must be physically provided (Texas Tribune, Oct. 21). The tracker doesn't show whether any project in Childress County has a pending TCEQ permit.
